    Remarks:
The sculpture was a gift of James Anderson Bryden, who came from Scotland as a child and prospered as a grain commission merchant. The sculpture is a copy of one installed in Kilmarnock, Scotland. W. Grant Stevensen referred to an oil portrait by Alexander Nasmyth for guidance on modeling Burns' face. The sculpture was cast in Edinburgh. The bas-reliefs were designed by Julius E. Heimerl and created by Stevensen. The east side relief shows a scene from Burns' poem "The Cotter's Saturday Night." IAS files contain related article from The Evening Wisconsin, June 26, 1909. IAS image on file shows only Robert Burns and the ploughing relief.
