Inscription:  (Incised on base, south side:) TO THE SOLDIERS OF WHITE PLAINS WHO DIED IN THE SERVICE OF THEIR COUNTRY IN THE CIVIL WAR 1861-1865 (Incised on base, north side:) ERECTED BY THEIR LATE COMRADES AND THE TOWN OF WHITE PLAINS JULY 4, 1872. (Names of White Plains citizens who died in the Civil War are incised on the east and west sides of the base) unsigned Description:  Full-length figure of a uniformed Civil War soldier. He wears a long coat, cape, and cap. He has a moustache and goatee. With his proper left hand, he leans on the top of his rifle and looks to his proper left. He holds the rifle barrel in his proper right hand.
