Description:
Desert Star and Desert Flower are two kinetic sculptures designed to be set in motion by air currents in the courtyards of two adjacent buildings. The sculptures are composed of red-painted abstract shapes suspended from horizontal metal bars attached to the roofs along the sides of each courtyard. Desert Flower consists of four independent moving pieces each composed of a red-painted flower-shaped form suspended over the courtyard from a long metal bar which is topped with a arrow-shaped form. Desert Star consists of two independent moving pieces each composed of a star-shaped form suspended from a metal pole topped with an arrow-shaped form.

Remarks:
The sculptures were designed to fit the courtyards and to capture the hidden energies in nature. Commissioned by the Palm Desert Commission on the Arts. Stephen O'Brien, the sculptor's assistant, helped with the fabrication of the sculpture.
