This is the Place Monument, (sculpture). Artist:  Young, Mahonri Mackintosh, 1877-1957, sculptor. Anargyros, Spero, 1915-2004, assistant. Woolley, Taylor, architect. Title:  This is the Place Monument, (sculpture). Dates:  1945-1947. Dedicated 1947. Medium:  Sculpture: bronze; Base: stone. Inscription:  signed Description:  A tall obelisk and shorter exedra with several figure groups and relief plaques, depicting people and events in Utah's history. Atop the tall, center obelisk are three standing male figures--Brigham Young, Heber C. Kimball (on Young's proper left side) and Wilford Woodruff (on Young's proper right side). Below these three figures, on a much lower plinth at the bottom front of the monument, Erastus Snow stands (with hat held upraised in proper right hand); and behind him on horseback is Orson Pratt (holding his hat in upraised proper left hand, while his proper right hand grips the reins). On either side of Snow and Pratt, on separate low plinths, are three full-length standing figures. Each end of the exedra is also capped with figure groups and there are additional reliefs of settlers, covered wagons, horses, Spanish explorers, trappers, and fur traders.
