    Remarks:
IAS files contain a church brochure (n.d.) which describes the monument. The sculpture was funded by Mr. & Mrs. Thomas F. Kane. The artist was inspired by the Plains Indian custom of placing their dead on a high scaffold as a presentation to the spiritual world and was also influenced by his studio in Europe, specifically Francois Rude's sculpture entitled the Tomb of Cavaignac, which also features a draped body. A bronze plaque set in plaza directly in front of monument reads: VETERANS MEMORIAL/GIFT OF/MR. & MRS. THOMAS F. KANE/GIVEN TO/THE CHURCH OF THE HOLY GHOST/5/26/1986. For related articles see Rocky Mountain News (Denver, CO), May 20, 1986, pg. B-2; and Western Art Digest (Nov.-Dec. 1986), pg. 90-95.
