A bronze sculpture depicting a little girl and boy playing rests atop a small rectangular granite base that sits in the middle of an irregularly-shaped fountain basin. The little boy reclines on his stomach and the little girl is seated on his back. The boy takes a deep breath and reaches up to his nose with his proper right hand. His legs are bent at the knees and crossed at the ankles. The girl riding on his back, tilts her head up, raises her proper right arm above her head, and places her proper left hand on the boy's head.

Formerly located Boston Public Garden, Beacon & Arlington Street, Boston, Massachusetts until 1924.

The sculpture was a gift of Mrs. Boylston Beal who had first seen the fountain at the Panama Pacific Exhibition in San Francisco in 1915. Originally, the fountain was installed in Boston Public Garden at the corner of Beacon and Arlington Streets, across the street from her home, but it was moved to its present site due to construction of the George Robert White Memorial in 1924. IAS files contain a Nov. 21, 1979 "Condition Survey of Boston Sculpture" form which notes that the sculpture was stolen in 1977, but was later recovered. IAS files also contain a condition treatment description from Dennis and Craine, Associates which describes the condition of the sculpture and notes the conservation treatment performed on April 23, 1987.
