    Description: 
    A Confederate soldier stands atop an obelisk composed of thirteen blocks of granite, representing the seceded states. The lower third of the base has decorative carvings of crossed sabres, a marble roundel bas-relief bust of "Old Tice," and various inscriptions. The obelisk faces south and is surrounded by portraits of four Confederate figures, one at each of the four corners: Generals Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson, Albert S. Johnston, and Confederate President Jefferson Davis.

    Remarks: 
    Donated by the Daughters of the Confederacy, Chapter no. 6, at a cost of $18,500. Cornerstone laid June 25, 1896. The monument stood at the north corner of Old City Park until 1961, when it was relocated due to construction of theThorton Freeway. IAS files contain supplemental material on the history of the monument, which describes fundraising, dedication, and an incident of vandalism.
