    Remarks:
The statue commemorates Alexander Hamilton (1755-1804). Born in the West Indies, Hamilton distinguished himself as a soldier and statesman during the Revolutionary War and was a signer of the Constitution. When the new government was inaugurated, he organized the Treasury Department, and served as its first Secretary in Washington. Hamilton died July 12, 1804, after a fatal dual with Aaron Burr. Rimmer carved the monument directly, using no model. The statue was a gift to the City of Boston in 1865 from Thomas Lee.
