    A rectangular tablet adorned at the top with a recessed rectangle containing a waist-length portrait in relief of Pope John Paul II. He wears a cross around his neck and his hands are clasped at his waist. Below the relief is a commemorative inscription.

    Remarks: 
    The sculpture was commissioned by The Order of the Alhambra to commemorate Pope John Paul II's visit to Boston and his celebration of Mass in Boston Common. The event marked the first visit of a pope to Boston. In the early 1990s the sculpture was removed and then replaced during the refurbishing of a parking garage under Boston Common.
