Description:
Standing full-length portrait of General Kearny in military uniform and a knee-length cloak. His proper right hand holds his sword, the tip of which is rests on the base. His cloak covers his proper left shoulder and side, masking the absence of his left arm which he lost in the Mexican War.

Remarks:
The sculpture, which cost $5,000, was a gift from Muskegon philanthropist Charles H. Hackley to the Phil Kearny Post No. 7 G.A.R. The G.A.R. Post later donated the park and the sculpture to the City of Muskegon.
