    Description: 
    General Philip Kearny, with a pointed moustache and a goatee, stands in uniform. An overcoat is draped over his proper left shoulder. His proper right hand holds a sword, its point resting on the ground. He stands atop a two-tiered base with an inscription.

    Remarks: 
    Financed with $25,000 donated by the community, including $1,000 raised by the children of the Garfield School through a readathon. Major General Philip Kearny, 1814-1862, was a local resident who led the First New Jersey Brigade in the Civil War until he was killed in battle. The Town of Kearny is named for him and the foundation includes bricks from his mansion. Figure is a duplicate of the life-size monument that has stood in Newark's Military Park since 1881.
