    Description: 
    Carved cedar totem pole. The totems from the top down are: raven; woman holding a frog child; frog husband; mink; raven; whale with seal in its mouth; and a mythical figure known as Raven-at-the-Head-of-Nass. The pole sits in a low metal support ring.

    Remarks: 
    The pole is a replica of a totem pole carved by an unknown Tlingit artist which was originally installed in 1899. The original pole, taken from a village in Alaska, was found to have dry rot in 1938. The United States Forest Service sponsored the carving of the replica pole in 1939. A nearby plaque indicates that the Pioneer Building, Pergola and Totem Pole were designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1977 by the National Park Service.
