Inscription:
(On south side of statue base, toward front:) JOHN SZATON Sc. (On south side of statue base, toward rear:) SPAMINATO (sic) ART FOUNDRY/CHICAGO ILL 1966 (Plaque on east side of base has a lengthy inscription pertaining to coal) signed Founder's mark appears.
Description:
A figure of a coal miner standing with his proper left leg slightly ahead of his right. He is wearing overalls and a helmet with a miner's lamp, and holds a pick on his proper right shoulder. On the front of the base is a plaque with a bas-relief of a dragline mining machine at work in a strip mine.
