    Remarks:
IAS files contain a copy of, "A History of the Peace Statue on the West Lawn of the Monroe County Courthouse," by Howard Canada which gives a full history of the piece. Lobbying efforts by Commissioners Warren Henegar and John Irvine resulted in the County appropriating $500.00 for the statue.Local stonecutter, William Dahmer was selected as a CETA applicant and began work in late 1978. Statue was designed by Dahmer, dedicated to Peace to balance the collection of surrounding courthouse war memorials. In 1986, during a peace rally, it was discovered that the statue's left hand holding a dove was missing. Artist William Galloway remade the hand and dove in 1991.
