Description:
Full-length figure of
Joseph-Nicolas
Nicollet
stands on a low, round base. The figure is incorporated into geometric shapes representing a surveyor's sextant. The figure wears a long-sleeved shirt and trousers tucked into boots. He looks through a telescope held in his proper right hand. The front profile of the torso and proper right leg appear in negative relief on one of the inside edges of the sextant and a cape flares behind him. Native American style drawings appear in relief on the cape. Images of the figure's striding legs appear in cutouts in the sextant on each side of the figure.
