    Remarks: 
    Commissioned by the Medgar Evers Statue Fund, Inc. for $55,000. The project was initiated in 1987 by Mirtes Gregory, a local civic worker. Medgar Evers (1925-1963) served as the First Mississippi National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Field Secretary from 1954 to 1963, when he was assassinated. IAS files contain a pamphlet entitled "The Medgar Evers Statue Fund, Inc., Reflections/Memorial Site," c. 1993, which gives history of memorial and lists contributors.
