Description:
A set of six abstract butterflies are attached to the exterior walls of the animal healthcare facility of the Division of Comparative Medicine building. Each of the butterflies is a unique assemblage of found objects. A four-winged wrought iron and glass butterfly is mounted on the east corner of the building. A large flat butterfly adorned with blue marbles embedded in its wings is mounted on a side wall. Barely visible, peeking over the roof of the building is a small butterfly made of bent tubing. A butterfly made of cut and welded sheet metal adorned with smears of paint is mounted on a side wall. A tiny butterfly made of wrought iron and a green shiny plastic, or metal, is mounted on the west corner of the building. A small butterfly made of wrought iron and colored plastic, is mounted on the roof of the building. The butterflies are attached to metal pipes that are mounted to the exterior of the building.

Remarks:
The sculpture was commissioned by M.I.T. and paid for using M.I.T.'s version of the percent for art program, a fund that allows one percent of all building renovation budgets to go toward the purchase of public art.
