Description:
George Washington in a winter uniform, wrapped in a mantle, with a tricorn hat on his head, sits astride a horse. His proper left hand holds both reins of the bridle, his proper right hand rests on his proper right hip. The sculpture is mounted on a rectangular base.

Remarks:
The sculpture was donated to the city by Miss Ellen Mabel Clark an the sculpture is located where Washington's bodyguards were quartered during the winter of 177-78. The installation site was donated by Dr. Henry M. Dodge. The hat and uniform are exact replicas of what Washington wore while he was encamped in Morristown.

Bostick's "The Public Monuments and Sculpture of Morristown, New Jersey," 1978; articles from the Morristown Topics, Oct. 20, 1928; the Daily Record, Feb. 1, 1995, pg. A5; and correspondence from Charles W. Parker, dated July 29, 1937, describing arrangements for the donation of the sculpture. Additional information is available at the Morristown National Historical Park Library on Washington Place in Morristown, New Jersey, and at the Morristown Public Library's Local History Department.
