    Description: 
    A youthful Columbus in Renaissance tunic and leggings stands on a two-stepped inscribed and decorated base. His proper right hand rests on a globe. He holds a unrolled sheet in his proper left hand at his side. Windblown Spanish sailing ships are incised on three sides of the plinth, with incised inscription on the front.

    Remarks: 
    From 1940-1983 the statue was located in front of Columbus School, in Norwalk. In 1983, the statue was moved and rededicated to become the centerpiece of a park celebrating the many ethnic groups of Norwalk. The statue stands in front of the Heritage Wall, which contain various plaques commemorating ethnic America. IAS files contain a related newsclipping on the rededication ceremony from The Hour (Norwalk, CT), Oct. 13, 1983, pg. 134.
