The proper right arm is bent at the elbow and brought up to the chest. A sextant is held in the proper right hand. The proper left arm hangs to the side and holds a partially unfurled scroll. A medallion is draped around the neck. Behind the figue, to knee height, are two moorings posts and a coiled rope." The sculpture was proposed almost 40 years ago by the late Salvatore Terenzo, a local promoter of Italian heritage. The idea was shelved until 1982, when Dr. Robert Porzio of the Unico Club joined forces with other Italian-American service groups, who privately raised $25,000 to pay for the work.
