Description:
Christopher Columbus dressed in armor with a short cloak over top. He touches his chest with his proper left hand. His proper right hand is at his side holding a bar which is connected to a post wrapped with heavy rope. The sculpture stands on an oval base located in the center of a fountain pool. Around the fountain there is a fence with a row of bushes and another fence.

Remarks:
Commissioned by the owners of the Columbus Memorial Building. It was exhibited in the Italian pavilion at the World's Columbian Exposition and later moved to a niche above the entrance of the Columbus Memorial Building where it remained until the building was demolished in 1959. The sculpture then was placed in storage until 1966 when it was included in the first park-like mall to be built in Chicago under the Community Improvement Program.
