Provenance:  Formerly located Beacon Towers, Sands Point, Long Island, New York Formerly in the collection of Belmont, August, Mr. & Mrs. (Alva Vanderbilt), Sands Point, Long Island, New York Formerly in the collection of Hearst, William Randolph, Mr. & Mrs., Sands Point, Long Island, New York Remarks:  One of several frescos adorning the interior walls of Beacon Towers, a Sands Point, Long Island castle built by Alva Vanderbilt Belmont and her husband August Belmont in 1915. Vincent Aderente's frescos depicting the story of St. Joan of Arc were probably painted shortly after she and her husband moved to the castle, which was modeled after an Irish castle. In the 1920s, the castle was sold to Mr. & Mrs. William Randolph Hearst, who painted over some of the frescos. One canvas piece depicting Saint Joan was kept in its original location in the castle. The Hearsts sold the castle in 1942, and in 1945, the castle along with all the art works was demolished. References:  King, Glenn, 2008.
