Remarks:
The sculpture cost $10,000 which paid for by de Peyster's great-great-great grandson, John Watts de Peyster. The statue is one of two de Peyster commissioned from the artist. The other statue, located in New
York
City (see IAS entry 76003482), was cast by a different founder and shows a seated Abraham de Peyster, wearing boots. At Franklin and Marshall, the statue was originally placed in front of the De Peyster Library, but was moved when the library was torn down. IAS files contain article from New
York
Times, Aug. 22,2003, which discusses both statues.
