    Description: 
    Full-length male figure in a wind-blown short toga stands atop a tall, tapered pedestal. His proper right hand shades his eyes as he looks off into the distance. Reliefs on the pedestal illustrate Henry Hudson's Half Moon and John Fulton's steamer the Clermont sailing up the Hudson River. Busts of Hudson and Fulton were once installed on either side of the pedestal.

    Remarks: 
    Commissioned by a Citizens Auxiliary Committee and financed with funds left over from the 1909 Hudson-Fulton Centennial Celebration. Sketch models for this work are in the collection of the Hudson River Museum (see IAS records 76004662 and 76004672). Busts of Hudson and Fulton on either side of the monument were stolen.
