Formerly in the collection of Pulaski Federal Savings and Loan Association, Corner of 3rd & Spring Street, Little Rock, Arkansas
Remarks:
Count Casimir Pulaski (1749-1779) was a Polish nobleman who emigrated to America and became a general in the Revolutionary War. He died at the siege of Savannah. Pulaski County (Arkansas) is named after the general. The bust is one of several formerly in the collection of Pulaski Federal Savings and Loan Association. Around 1960, because of efforts led by Judge Arch Campbell, a civic group commissioned local artist S. S. Schnittmann to do a Pulaski bust. The original bust was dedicated on April 27, 1961 at Federal Savings (later Savers Saving Association or Savers Savings and Loan). Federal Savings used the bust as its emblem, and had exclusive rights to its use in Arkansas. Several copies were authorized by Federal Savings, including one copy that was installed in the County Courthouse lobby on Oct. 10 or 11, 1961. In 1992, the County received two additional busts from foreclosure proceedings, held in September 1991 by the Resolution Trust Corporation.
