States Rights Gist commanded a brigade of the Confederate Army during the Vicksburg campaign. He was later killed at the Battle of Franklin on Nov. 30, 1864. Sited on former property of Vicksburg National

Park. Erected by the federal government. The monument is on the National Park Service List of Classified Structures (LCS no. 03318). IAS files contain a copy of the LCS report form. Bronze bust cost $575 and base cost $208.91 paid by Federal Government.
