    Remarks: 
    Source reports that this painting descended in family of sitter to his great, great, great-nephew Col. Johnson, USMC, from whom it was purchased by present owner in 1991. The portrait was said to have been executed in New Orleans, LA, between January and April 1863. Label on rear of frame states: "A.P.C. Bonte, 118 Fourth St., Cincinnati, Ohio, Manafactures'(sic) of Oval and Square Frames."
