Description:
A male figure of Simon Kenton, 1755-1836, stands dressed in a fringed buckskin jerkin, buckskin pants, knee high boots, and a coonskin cap. The figure extends his proper right arm outward and points to the west. A powder horn hangs beneath his proper right arm by a strap over his proper left shoulder. He holds a long rifle against his body with his lowered proper left hand. The figure stands atop a low base.

Remarks:
Simon Kenton, 1755-1836, a leading figure in the opening of the West, was born in Virginia but spent most of his life in what is now Kenton County, the county which bears his name. He is remembered for his leadership in the battles which led to the settlement of Kentucky and Ohio. IAS files contain transcription on plaque near figure's leg.
