Description:
A Civil War monument with relief portraits on the shaft and topped by the
figure
of a soldier. The soldier is dressed in uniform, which includes a knee-length coat, a cape, and a hat. He stands at parade rest holding the barrel of a rifle with both hands. The butt of the rifle rests near the
figure
's proper left foot. The upper section of the monument below the
figure
is decorated with peaked projections and reliefs of swords, cannons, rifles, and anchors. The midsection of the monument is embellished on two sides with relief bust-length portraits of Abraham Lincoln and General Grant (?). Decorative columns are placed at each corner of the midsection. The lower section of the monument is multitiered and is inscribed with names of Civil War battle sites.
