    Remarks:
Sculpture commemorates Marquis de Lafayette, for whom Lafayette College was named. The original plaster model was created by Daniel Chester French in connection with his development of the design of the Lafayette Memorial bas-relief in Prospect Park, Brooklyn, New York (IAS record 76009560). It was donated by French to the College on June 23, 1919, and cast in bronze in 1921 through funds raised by College alumni. The sculpture was dedicated on Founder's Day. The base of the sculpture was designed by Henry Bacon. Immediately after the installation of the sculpture, the original sword was stolen. It was recast and is brought out for special occasions. The sculpture underwent conservation treatment in May, 1995 by S.A.T., New York (Bob Pringle).
