    Felten 1976 (Metal plaque on front of base, raised:) "Capuchin-Franciscan Friars/have ministered to the Catholics of Ellis County since 1878./Saint Fidelis Friday, Heroz (sic) (Victoria), was established by/Father Matthew Hau, O.F.M. Cap., and Father Anastasius Mueller,/O.F.M. Cap., at the invitation of the Bishop of Leavenworth,/Rt Rev. Louis M. Fink, OSB, on May 11, 1878. For several years/this was the central station from which friars cared for a seven county area. This statue, a tribute to those followers of St. Francis of Assissi (sic), was dedicated July 28, 1878 (sic). signed
    Description: 
    Bearded figure of St. Francis of Assisi in a monk's robe. The robe is tied around his waist, from which hangs a rosary. His proper right arm clutches at his chest. He stands atop a base with an inscribed plaque.

    Remarks: 
    Tribute to the Capuchin-Franciscan Friars that have ministered to the people of the area since 1878, when Victoria was called Herzog. Saint Fidelis Friday was established at Herzog by Father Matthew Hau and Father Anastasius Mueller at the invitation of the Bishop of Leavenworth on May 11, 1878.
