The statue commemorates Right Rev. Msgr. Edward J. Flanagan, founder and director of Boys Town. The statue was a gift from the Variety Clubs International. IAS files contain newsclippings concerning the unveiling and significance of the sculpture, including New York Times Nov. 29, 1948 and World Herald (Omaha, NE) Nov. 28, 1948, sect. A. pg. 24.
