    Remarks:
Casper Henry Borgess (1826-1890) became Bishop of the Diocese of Detroit in 1870. He is the benefactor and namesake of Borgess Hospital, Kalamazoo's first hospital. Bishop Borgess was initially buried in St. Augustine, but was later moved to Kalamazoo and this monument was dedicated on Oct. 8, 1906. Later his body was moved to Detroit's Sepulchre Cemetery along with other deceased bishops from the Diocese of Detroit. A newspaper article appearing in the Kalamazoo Gazette, Oct. 7, 1906, pg. 5, notes that Bartholi was the artist.
