    Remarks:
Colonel Simon Perkins, 1805-1887, a son of Akron's co-founder, was one of the city's leading benefactors for more than half a century. He helped to bring the first railroad to Akron and was instrumental in the creating of Summit County and in making Akron the county seat. The park in which the statue stands was donated by him to the city and was named "Grace Park" in honor of Perkins' wife, Grace Tod Perkins. The sculpture was commissioned by the Akron Board of Park Commissions. Friends of Perkins subscribed $6,000 to a fund to have the statue made. Moretti was commissioned to create the figure and the Henry-Bonnard Bronze Co. cast the figure. Statue is registered with the Ohio Historic Preservation Office. IAS files contain a related excerpt from Karl H. Grismer's "Akron and Summit County," Summit County Historical Society, 1925, pg. 287; a copy of the statue's survey from the Ohio Historic Inventory; and a related undated article from the Akron Beacon Journal.
