    Remarks:
Sculpture funded by the Works Progress Administration, and the pedestal was funded by George C. Page. Sculpted by Roop prior to his death in 1932, and completed by Beck. Originally part of a larger outdoor sculpture which included an additional saber-tooth and a submerged bison carcass which vanished about 1951, when piece was moved. About 1968, vandals sawed off one cat's tail and teeth, breaking away half the face in the process. Replacements for these missing parts were sculpted in clay by museums staff in 1984. Repainting and restoration work done by Green Painting Inc., and in 1986, sculpture was placed in its current location. IAS files contain a copy of an unpublished manuscript entitled "Bring 'Em Back Alive," by Eric Scott and Cathy McNassor.
