Description:
Fiberglass sculpture of an Aztec male and female atop a 12 foot base resembling a mountain. The male is kneeling and cradling a lifeless female figure who represents his dead love. She is draped in a white cloth with a spray of roses; the
snake
that bit her encircles nearby. The male is bare-chested and wears a loincloth and headband. Behind the male figure is an eagle and agave plant. The scene illustrates the Aztec legend of Popocatepetla and Ixtaccihuatl --a star-crossed lovers legend in which the male returns from battle to find his love has died because she thought he was dead.
