Lions, (sculpture). Artist:  Beck, Hermann T., sculptor. Title:  Lions, (sculpture). Dates:  Commissioned ca. 1932. Installed 1935. Relocated 1986. Digital Reference:  Medium:  Painted concrete. Inscription:  unsigned Description:  Two life-sized lions, one walking, one sitting, are parallel to each other, but facing opposite directions. They sit on a high pedestal in the park, at the museum entrance. Subject:  Animal -- Lion Object Type:  Outdoor Sculpture -- California -- Los Angeles Sculpture Owner:  Natural History Museum of Los Angeles, George C. Page Museum, 5801 Wilshire Boulevard, Hancock Park, Los Angeles, California 90036 Remarks:  Lions funded by the Works Progress Administration, and the pedestal was funded by George C. Page. Lions were relocated several times within the park; to the Lake Pit in 1951, in 1968, on museum grounds after restoration ca. 1985, and placed in present location in 1986. Restoration work done in 1984 by Green's Painting Inc. IAS files contain an unpublished manuscript entitled "Bring 'Em Back Alive," by Eric Scott and Cathy McNassor.
