    Description: 
    The monument depicts a saddled, riderless horse carved out of a granite boulder. The horse is seen from the side, with its front proper right foreleg bent and lifted. The horse has a bronze bridle. Below the horse on the front is a bronze medallion of the State of Wisconsin seal. The sculpture sits on a two tiered rough-edged base.

    Remarks: 
    The monument commemorates the involvement of the First Wisconsin Cavalry, 2nd Brigade, 1st Division, Cavalry Corps at the Battle of Chickamauga during the Civil War. It marks the position held by the regiment during the battle. It was placed by the State of Wisconsin and veterans. The state seal is a replacement. At one time, the monument was enclosed by a wrought iron fence, which has been removed. IAS files contain: related excerpt from Jack Kerr's "Monuments and Markers of the 29 States Engaged at Chickamauga and Chattanooga," Collegedale, TN: The College Press, n.d.; copy of Georgia Historic Resources 1988 form, Historic Preservation Section, Georgia Department of Natural Resources. The monument is on the National Park List of Classified Structures No. 03241.
