Remarks:
Autumn
is one of four figures, commissioned by the City of Portland, Indiana and sculpted by Harold Langland. The figure of
Autumn
, a woman looking at herself in the mirror, sees a reflection of "Summer." According to the artist, "The implicaton is that
autumn
is a time of reflection, of looking back." The artist also notes that
autumn
represents the closing of the year, symbolized by the woman pulling her robe around herself. IAS files contain related articles from the Commercial Review (Portland, IN), Nov. 19, 1990; and the South Bend Tribune (South Bend, IN), Nov. 1990, pg. C1, C3.
