(New Haven County Courthouse: Tympanum), (sculpture).

    Rhind, John Massey, 1860-1936, sculptor.

    Medium:
    Marble.
    Inscription:
    unsigned
    Description:
"The large central figure in the tympanum represents the Goddess of Justice, seated on a Greek throne. Her proper right hand rests on the hilt of a sword and at her proper left stands a small figure of Winged Victory, demonstrating that the Goddess inspires the world with justice. On the proper right of the Goddess is Common Law, depicted as a youth holding a shield decorated with the national emblem. At his proper right stands Precedence, shown as an older Grecian male figure -- precedence being the foundation of Common Law. Perhaps the outstanding figure in the group is that of a reclining man teaching two youths the virtue of accuracy, symbolized by the Greek mason's plummet."
