    Remarks:
Although the Bronx County Building was begun in 1931, it was not until September 1932 that the seventy-ton, pink marble blocks for carving the eight sculpture groups arrived from Tate, Georgia. The building was dedicated on June 16, 1934. The Architects of the building, Max Hausle and Joseph Freedlander, worked in collaboration with the four sculptors. Adolph Weinman supervised the creation of the eight groups and was responsible for two of the works himself, "The Song of Achievement" and "Progress" which stand on the Mount Eden Avenue side of the building. George Snowden designed the sculpture flanking the 161st Street entrance, "Civic Government" and "The Majesty of Law." Joseph Kisselewski designed "Victory and Peace" and "Loyalty, Valor and Sacrifice" located at the Walton Avenue side of the building. Edward Sanford designed the two sculptures on the 158th Street side of the building, "Triumph of Government" and "Genius of Administration."
In 1976, the New York City Landmarks Commission designated the building a Landmark site. IAS files contain a copy of the Landmarks Preservation Commission document dated July 13, 1976 which give a brief history of the creation of the Bronx County. IAS files also contain an excerpt from the Bronx County Historical Society Journal 2 (July 1973) pg. 74-83 on the Bronx County Building by Sylvia Moore. This excerpt includes an image of one of the sculpture groups, but does not discuss the sculpture in any detail.
