(East face of monument:) ILLINOIS (North face of monument:) THE COMMANDS INSCRIBED ON THIS MONUMENT WERE/ENGAGED IN THE ASSAULT ON MISSIONARY/RIDGE, NOVEMBER 25th, 1863. (On the north, west and south sides are details concerning Willich's, Wagner's, Grose's, Sherman's, Harker's, Carlin's, Wood's, and Moore's Brigades) signed
Description:
A tall column topped with a bronze female figure of Peace holding an olive wreath. At the bottom, on each corner of the granite base, are bronze figures representing branches of the military. To proper right back is an officer with field glasses in his hand; to proper right front is a dismounted cavalryman about to unsheathe his saber with his proper right hand. To proper left back is an artilleryman; to proper left front is an infantrymen with rifle. On front of base, bronze seal of the State of Illinois and bronze furled flag.

Robert A. Bullard, architect for the Culver Stone Company, designed the Illinois monument. Estimated cost $50,000. IAS files contain two unidentified published excerpts related to the monument.
