Remarks:
Joseph Story (1779-1845) was an associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court. He favored the federal government over the states rights and opposed slavery. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1900. His portrait is one of 97 bronze busts installed along the walls of the colonnaded Beaux Arts style Hall of Fame complex which was dedicated on May 30, 1901. The Hall of Fame was founded by New York University as a Pantheon honoring historically significant American men and women. The stewardship was assumed by Bronx Community College when the property was transferred to The City University of New York in 1973.
