Description:
A full-length figure of a Confederate cavalryman about to draw his sword. He stands with his proper right hand reaching across his waist and holding the handle by his proper left side, the sheath held by his proper left hand. The soldier is in uniform, he has a moustache and wears a wide-brimmed hat and boots, and stands with his proper right foot forward. The sculpture is mounted upon a castellated pedestal set upon a two-tiered, rough-cut base.

Remarks:
The monument commemorates the involvement of the Confederate Cavalry of Tennessee at the Battle of Chickamauga during the Civil War. It was placed by the State of Tennessee and marks the position held by the regiment during the battle. The cost was $2,000. The original was destroyed before 1906 and was replaced. IAS files contain an excerpt from Jack Kerr's "Monuments and Markers of the 29 States Engaged at Chickamauga and Chattanooga," Collegedale, TN: The College Press, n.d. The monument is listed as National Park Service List of Classified Structures, No. 03210. IAS files contain a copy of the LCS report form.
