Remarks:
IAS files contain copies of Clubbe, John, "Cincinnati Observed," Columbus, Ohio: Ohio State University Press, 1992, pg. 412, and other related newsclippings. The statue is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 1864, a year before the end of the Civil War, $25,000 was raised by subscription to recognize Cincinnatians who died in the war. Rogers was selected to design the sculpture, which he titled: Soldier of the Line. The work was fabricated in Rome and cast a year later by Ferdinand von Miller at the
Royal
Foundry
in Munich. It was the first of many civil war memorials Rogers was to design. An Ohio Historical Society Inventory sheet in IAS files lists the title as Civil War Statue, Soldiers Monument.
