The artist, Melita Brecher was selected to design the sculpture after a two year search by members of the Field House Sculpture Advisory Committee, appointed by President A. LeRoy Greason. Funds for the $25,000 sculpture were raised by a group of alumni, students, coaches and friends, who ran in a "Run One for Bowdoin" challenge race in the 1986 Boston Marathon. The sculpture is covered with a patina. IAS files contain related article from Sundial (Brunswick, ME: Bowdoin College), vol. 1, no. 6, 1989/90.
