Description:
Installed high above the main entrance is a standing portrait of John Hampden extending his proper left hand and holding his proper right hand up to his chest. He is dressed in jurist robes and a wig.

Remarks:
One of six courthouse sculptures of men known for their development of law on English soil. The sculptures are installed on the cornice above the main entrance to the courthouse. John Hampden (1594-1642) authored the Petition of Rights in 1628. He was also involved in the struggle between the crown and parliament.
Lehman
& Schmidt were the architects of the courthouse.
