He stands atop a column, underneath a Gothic canopy on Capitol facade. Jonathan Trumbull (1710-1785) was a noted soldier and statesman who figured prominently in Connecticut commerce. He served as Governor of Connecticut from 1769 to 1784. His sculpture was the first portrait statue placed on the capitol and was in place by March of 1878.
