Remarks:
The sculpture was installed in 1878 and is one of four portrait statues on the east facade of the state capitol honoring individuals important in Connecticut's history. Jonathan Trumbull (1710-1785) was a noted soldier and statesman who figured prominently in Connecticut commerce. He served as Governor of Connecticut from 1769 to 1784. His sculpture was the first portrait statue placed on the capitol and was in place by March of 1878.
