    Description: 
    Order is represented by a seated nude male figure with a nude young boy leaning against his proper right side and a roaring tiger crouching on his proper left side. The young boy holds a book in his proper right hand. The male figure embraces the boy with his proper right hand and calmly raises his proper left hand as he steps on the head of the tiger with his proper left foot.

    Remarks: 
    This sculpture is one of five bronzes by Barye that were given to the City of Baltimore by wealthy businessman William Thompson Walters in 1885. Originally, all five were installed in the West Garden of Mt. Vernon Place. In 1916, due to landscaping improvements, all five bronzes were relocated to the area around the Washington Monument.
    The sculpture is a copy of a stone sculpture Barye created in the late 1950s for the top of the columns on the facade of the Louvre in Paris.
