    Remarks:
Joseph Wadsworth (1647-1730) allegedly saved the colonial charter in 1687 by hiding it in the Charter Oak tree.
One of six statues and five bas-relief scenes on the Capitol's north facade, all associated with significant figures and events from the pre-Revolutionary War history of Connecticut. The sculptural ornamentation on the north elevation was commissioned and created as an integrated whole under the artistic supervision of Paul Wayland Bartlett. The works were commissioned by the State Commission on Sculpture primarily between 1906-1908 and dedicated July 30, 1908, with the exception this Wadsworth statue installed in 1916.
